Claude Jammet
EXHIBITION: "EXIT"
Born in Zimbabwe of French parents, Claude Jammet grew up in Kenya, India and Japan in addition to long sojourns in France, before settling in South Africa where she began her career as a professional painter. Over the past 20 years Jammet has lived and worked in Liguria, Italy.
As an artist Jammet is completely self taught. Over a career spanning five decades Jammet has held some 20 solo exhibitions as well as group shows across South Africa, Europe and Japan. Her work is held in numerous private and corporate collections across the world.
EXHIBITION: "EXIT"
To be a good ancestor in the words of Roman Krznaric is to plan in order to help future generations. For the artist it is also the means by which to bear witness to our times as it has been since the strangers of Lascaux and La Grotte Chauvet, to the most recent avant-guardistes.
Since Claude Jammet was born many species have vanished and some are on the verge of disappearing.
“Exit˝ is the departure of the troupe from the stage, of those we mistakenly consider secondary actors. And soon of the one we presumptuously consider the principal actor. Perchance this exit could still have another outcome?
In the pale eye of Sudan, the last white rhino of its kind which Claude has painted in his agony, all mourning is sealed. In the wrinkles of his prostrate body, the prostration of the planet, the lament of a pessimistic Saint Francis, the desolation of the desert which follows in our wake.
