About the artist

Born in 1967, France

Sculpting the senses, Pauline Ohrel aims to capture the unsettled and the transient by applying a fine sense of human observation. Sculpture represents for her a "renewed adventure, a source of emotion which can be as much sensual as aesthetic or intellectual".
Set within a modernity which refuses to bow to the exigencies of fashion, Pauline Ohrel strives for an art form based on senses more than ideas and originating from the heart rather than the head. Having worked with classical materials such as bronze, plaster, or clay with success for several years, she is now also focusing on mesh wire, imbuing this material with an unexpected nobility. "With my recent work with wire mesh, I am exploring the frontiers of drawing and volume. By playing on perspectives and perceptions, the transparency creates an ambiguity that could either suggest confinement or the absence thereof. As with the subtlety of feeling and movement, this ambiguity requires the active participation of the actor/spectator"
