JIA Juan Li was born in Hangzhou(Zhejiang province) in China on the 5th of September 1960. She was brought up in a family background where culture, particularly painting, was highly valued. After secondary school, she was admitted to the Sichuan Art Institute and she started her professional career as a teacher in the Art department of Guizhou Academy. While teaching she continued with her work and research .In 1989 she was admitted to the very selective "creation and research training course"at the fine arts program at the Central Institute in Beijing, where she was awarded first class honors in 1991.
